Tsushima is a strategic and tactical simulation for one or two players and recreates the climactic naval battle of the Russo-Japanese War, Tsushima, where the Japanese Fleet defeated the Russian Baltic Fleet in the Straits of Tsushima on May 27, 1905.

Tsushima provides both a strategic (with tactical combat) and tactical (combat only) scenario. Each strategic turn in the game represents one hour and each tactical turn represents five minutes.

In the 2 player game the player takes control of the Imperial Japanese Fleet with the objective of destroying the Russian Fleet before it can enter Vladivostok. The solitaire game can be played as the Commander of the Russian Baltic Fleet only and your objective is to get your ships to Vladivostok.

There are 29 major warships represented in the game and you can design your own scenarios. The game can last from 15 minutes for a tactical battle to 3 hours for the campaign game. The game is rated 6 of 10 (intermediate) on Avalon Hills' complexity scale.

Description from the packaging:

The second in a series of comprehensive computer naval wargames, Tsushima recreates the climatic naval engagement of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-5.
Struggling to recover from losing its First Pacific squadron and the Manchurian city of Port Arthur, Tsarist Russia makes a dangerous gamble: to send its Baltic fleet from its home port of St. Petersburg, sail halfway around the world, and sneak past the pride of the Japanese fleet into the port of Vladivostok.

The action begins on the hi-resolution map of Japan, Korea, China and the East China Sea. Both sides know where they are, but where is the enemy? The computer won't tell until your commanders see them! As the Japanese player, do you split your squadrons- or consolidate and hope to find the Russians before they reach Vladivostok? For the Russian player, did the Japanese squadrons move into the high seas, or are they waiting for you in the straits of Tsugaru, Soya, or Tsushima?

When enemy ships come within gun range, the tactical battle takes over. A combat display indicates the locations of each ship involved in the battle. The tactical game is a very realistic simulation of naval surface combat. Everything is taken into account: speed, maneuverability, armor, number and type of each gun, rate of fire, the target's range, and much more. Over twenty-five major ships are represented, so you can re-create a historical battle, or your own "what if" scenario.

Other features include:

Detailed ship data.
Realistic combat resolution.
Easy-to-learn single-letter commands.
Two levels of play: strategic and tactical.
29 Major warships.
Design your own scenarios.
